It’s a mystery! Actually, not so much a mystery as a secret. I have no dinner board to show you this week, but never fear, I’m freshly stuffed from a pretty simple one dish recipe that I made for dinner which included some seasonal favorites–garlic scapes and a really funky two-toned summer squash. So why am I bragging about my dinner when I have no intention of sharing the plan or recipe here? Don’t go jumping to conclusions just yet, because I am going to share tonight’s dinner plus three others, and not just in a blog post. I’m putting together a mini eBook of a week of summer dinners! It’s totally free, and on August 8th (if all goes according to plan), I’ll blast it off to anyone who has already signed up to get blog updates. It includes a little of all my favorites–veggies, lentils, Mexican, and a freezer dinner that will feed you both the night you make it and one night in the future.
If you’d like the eBook when it comes out, the subscription button should be somewhere in the vicinity of the arrow below. Or thereabouts. I trust that you’re well versed in website navigation and probably found it before I even started writing this paragraph. —————>
Okay, enough about that for now. Other news–this weekend was birthday weekend! Yep, here I go bragging again. I’d love to share some pictures, but truth be told, I’m weird and must write in total silence, which means I needed to vacate the living room where there is Phil Collins live or something similar coming out of the surround sound that my lovely boyfriend just fixed. This leaves me temporarily separated from my camera, hard drive, and cute little pink wireless mouse. So basically I have nothing. They’ll (the photos) make it in all their unedited glory onto my flickr shortly, though.
The birthday festivities did involve a cheese making class at a local-ish farm. I’d heard of similar classes recently, so I was so excited when we arrived and Steve finally revealed what exactly we were doing in the middle of nowhere on a farm (on my birthday!?). If you’ve ever made cheese, you know it’s awesome. I learned soooo much, and I honestly enjoyed the “lecture” portion, involving some agricultural, public health, and industrial history, the most. Did you know the death rate for children in big cities like New York and Chicago used to be 50% before pasteurization was accepted practice and when farm animals were still raised in cities??? Crazy. It makes me wonder what common food practices in 2014 are going to be debunked 100 years from now as completely harmful, disgusting, and deadly. I personally hope it’s the mere existence of fast and processed food as being suitable for human consumption, much less nourishment.
Tangent. In summary, my birthday was relaxing and I managed to stay away from my computer or any Natural Comfort Kitchen affairs for at least 24 hours–a well-earned break! As busy as it may be building this blog to be a valuable resource and community and starting a business, I’m so lucky to be doing both as my full time job as I round out my 29th year. Life seriously gets better every year, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what 30 will have in store :) P.S. I hate smileys so that was a big deal and you know I meant it.
